Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant
Become a phlebotomist or lab assistant
Phlebotomists/lab assistants play a vital role on healthcare teams by obtaining patient specimens and recording results to assist other healthcare professionals with treating patients. If you would like to pursue an education that can prepare you for a career as a phlebotomist/lab assistant, Institute of Technology can be the place for you.
The Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant program places an emphasis on:
- Universal precautions
- Anatomy and physiology pertinent to phlebotomy
- Patient confidentiality
Students engage in hands-on training that involves electrocardiograms, waived laboratory tests, venipuncture, syringe draws, butterfly draws, and finger and heel sticks. Our program helps equip graduates with the skills necessary to meet the requirements of an entry-level phlebotomist/lab assistant.
Students who successfully complete our Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant program typically go on to accept positions in laboratories, physicians’ offices, hospitals, clinics, home health agencies, insurance companies and other health agencies. Graduates also have the opportunity to seek national certifications from the American Association of Allied Health Professionals, the American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals, American Medical Technologists, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
